Early years, JK/SK, Grades 1-4
UNDERSTANDING LIFE SYSTEMS / SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Empathy, Caring, Acceptance, Responsibility
(1.5 hrs) This fun “hands-on” program is aimed specifically towards the primary grades. The activity is divided into 3 major components and adult accompaniment is most welcome! Variations of this program can be arranged if requested by the teacher.
Large classes will be split into smaller groups and will rotate through the following areas:
Farm Animals: Students will use their senses to learn about chickens, goats, sheep, and horses. They will be actively involved in discussions regarding what animals eat (similarities and differences), why farmers raise different animals and specific individual characteristics.
Pony Rides: Ponies and small horses take each student for a short hand led ride. The pony ride, horse information, and the “hands-on” look at these exciting and useful animals is always a trip highlight. For safety and supervision this part of the program requires the assistance of adult volunteers to help lead the ponies. Certified helmets are worn by all student participants.
Tractor-Drawn Wagon Ride: A relaxing, safe and fun wagon ride through a beautiful 80 hectare site adds an exciting touch to your farm program.
Recommended for Pre-school aged children up to grade 4.
Relevant to curriculum expectations:
- Life Systems – Characteristics and needs of living things and growth and changes in animals
- Science and Technology – Exploration and Experimentation
This program is run in the spring and fall and is very popular. Call early to book your year end field trip!!
